*More about the RTS - Draft

13 October 2023

The RTS will provide the background information, inventory, guidance, and some tools that can be used to plan and assess trail and trail-related amenity (e.g., staging areas) development moving forward. Some examples of what will be delivered as part of the RTS include environmental suitability guidelines, trail access and staging inventory and guidelines, suitability analysis for potential future trail development in Whistler’s trail areas, as well as considerations for trail funding, communications, and commercial and event use.

The Trails Master Plan will build on the RTS and use the RTS guidance and tools to identify locational-specific gaps and needs in our existing trail network and prioritize improvements. Examples include identifying where new staging areas are needed, where improved trail connectivity from neighbourhoods to trailheads is required to encourage active transportation, where investment in green and blue level trails could go to reduce the pressure on Lost Lake Park, and where modification and development of trails for accessible mountain biking and new rider skill development could be located.
