Alignment with new provincial legislation (Bill 44 and Bill 46) aimed at increasing housing density and addressing the housing shortage.
Background
The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is updating Works and Services (W&S) Bylaws to ensure that our community’s infrastructure keeps pace with future needs.
As Whistler continues to evolve, it is essential that the costs of expanding infrastructure—such as roads, utilities, and community amenities—are shared equitably. The proposed fee structure is in step with comparable communities and will ensure that new developments contribute appropriately to the infrastructure they require, helping to relieve the financial burden on existing taxpayers and promote fairness across the community.
The updated W&S Bylaw will replace RMOW’s current suite of five bylaws, which have not been updated since 2000. The legislative authority for this update comes from the Resort Municipality of Whistler Act, and informed recent provincial changes under Bill 46 – Housing Statutes (Development Finance) Amendment Act, 2023.
We are committed to an inclusive and transparent engagement process, inviting input from residents, developers, community organizations, and local businesses. Your feedback is vital to shaping a fee structure that is equitable, sustainable, and fairly applied. By working together, we can ensure that Whistler’s infrastructure continues to meet the needs of our growing community while upholding the principles of fairness and long-term financial sustainability.
Stay tuned for more information on how you can get involved and share your perspectives as we move forward with this important update.
