Phase 3 engagement

Phase 3 engagement focused on gathering feedback on the draft suitability analyses and recommendations for each of the 12 trail areas in Whistler:

  1. Brandywine
  2. Callaghan
  3. Cheakamus
  4. Cougar Mountain
  5. Lost Lake Park
  6. Rainbow/Emerald
  7. Westside – Rainbow
  8. Westside – Sproatt
  9. Whistler North
  10. Whistler Valley Bottom
  11. Blackcomb CRA and Whistler CRA

For each of Whistler’s 11 trail network areas, we looked at the general suitability of the area for trail development and made some specific recommendations for community review and feedback. The draft content is included in the RTS Core Content document.

The engagement was conducted between October 13th and November 15th, 2023, and consisted of the following information and input opportunities:

Phase 2 engagement

Phase 2 of the project culminated with community engagement focused on the Initial Directions and intended to achieve the objectives:

  1. Gauge support for the RTS Initial Directions
  2. Gather feedback on the RTS Initial Directions
  3. Provide an update on the project and communicate next steps

The engagement was conducted between March 23 and April 17, 2023, and included the following input opportunities:

  • Online information session
  • Online survey
  • Pop-up booths at Whistler Public Library and Meadow Park Sports Centre

Phase 1 engagement

Phase 1 of the engagement included an online survey. Respondents were informed of the survey sections (listed below) and topics and invited to skip sections or questions that were not of interest to them.

  1. About you (demographic questions)
  2. Trail-related topics (importance and identification questions)
  3. Proposed 2021 trail projects (identification of challenges and mitigation actions)
  4. Draft vision and objectives for Whistler trails (level of agreement and identification of changes)
  5. Survey feedback

The online survey gathered input to inform the project planning phase of the Recreation Trails Strategy (RTS) project. The survey captured input from 799 respondents.
